What does Healthier Chocolate Cake taste like you ask? Well, it’s like a double chocolate chip banana moist muffin! ZERO refined sugar, no butter, no oil and no regrets! Why? Because here at I.A.M we know that a healthy mom is a happy and more energized mom. So instead we use bananas, greek yogurt and honey!

The Honey and bananas are used in place of sugar. Yes, this recipe does contain chocolate chips, which does contain sugar unless you buy the sugar-free ones. But on the other hand, dark chocolate is a huge source of antioxidants . One most influential love compound in chocolate is  phenethylamine. This chemical, which occurs in chocolate in small quantities, stimulates the nervous system and triggers the release of pleasurable opium-like compounds known as endorphins. This is where that feeling that makes you feel like you’re flying comes from. Oh that first bite into a deep, dark moist double chocolate fudge cake!! There is an adrenaline just writing about it!!

SIDE NOTE: You could also eliminate the chocolate chips altogether and this cake will still be pretty flippin good! Greek yogurt is used in place of oil or butter. Since by now I probably have your attention, in case you’re wondering, this cake pairs very handsomely with espresso chip ice cream.

So whenever you feel like indulging in 1 , 2 , 3 or 4 slices of chocolate cake, pull out this recipe and enjoy every single bite!

Ingredients

  •  1/3 cup honey

  •  1/2 cup greek yogurt (vanilla or plain)

  •  3 bananas, ripe

  •  1 & 1/2 cups all purpose flour

  •  2 tbsp creamy peanut butter

  •  1 egg

  •  1 tsp vanilla

  •  1/3 cup cocoa powder

  •  1 & 1/2 tsp baking soda

  •  1/2 cup chocolate chips

  •  mini chocolate chips for sprinkling on top

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º F.

  2. Spray an 8 inch square pan with cooking spray (for better taste, we use coconut oil spray)

  3. In a blender, combine the bananas, honey, greek yogurt, vanilla, and peanut butter. Blend until smooth, 1-2 minutes.

  4. Pour the blended mixture into a mixing bowl. Add the egg and mix in.

  5. Add the flour, cocoa powder, and baking soda, mix until it is all incorporated pretty well.

  6. Add the 1/2 cup of chocolate chips, mix.

  7. Pour the cake batter into your prepared pan. Sprinkle addition chocolate chips or topping of your desire on top of the cake if desired.

  8. Bake for 27-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Once it is all done (and make sure its fresh out of the oven) take a bite…ENJOY! (and thank us later!!) 😉
